Mr Auyeung attended the annual expert witness conference organised by Bond Solon at Church House in London on Friday 8th November 2025.
This year’s conference had speaker’s discussing lessons learnt for expert witness from Lucy Letby case; impact on expert witnessses from the Post Office Inquiry; general annual legal update; medicolegal updates and best practice and the future in civil courts.
The theme running through the conference is need for expert to be impartial acting for the court no matter who instructs for the case. In addition, expert witnesses need to show reasoning for their impartial opinion. When confronted with new evidence or errors in their reasoning expert witnesses are best to acknowledge the need to alter their opinion in light of these issues rather than stubbornly adhere to their original opinion otherwise the judge does not look favourably on the expert on the whole and runs the risk of losing credibility.
Mr Auyeung ensures that he complies with best practices by attending such conferences to refresh his knowledge and to learn about current guidance to aid in his report writing.
